The Lars Mission: Behind Enemy Vines


Lars is tasked with maintaining his research lab whilst waiting for the researchers to arrive so they can evacuate a hostile planet. Made for LD50 with Brainoid and Spacey3D, feautring some 2d art from Elysia Griffin.

Lars turned out to be a very well received game, as it combined simple mini games with third-person situation management mechanics (like Overcooked). Lars space station was a small space, but he had to keep on top of many tasks, including: keeping his space station powered, letting in researchers, preparing the rocket to evacuate with the researchers, and firing missiles at the approaching aggressive alien “vine” species. The nature of the game introduced elements of push your luck, you effectively had to stay as long as you can, slowing down the inevitable vine reaching the research lab, to evacuate as many researchers as possible. This high score game had people trying time and time again to improve their score.
